About the studio
I’m Kim-Lan, ecological garden designer. I design green, edible and playful gardens for lovers of nature. From small city gardens to woodland gardens, and everything in between. Shaped by your story and with a focus on biodiversity.
My studio is based in Sweden, where my family and I moved from the Netherlands in 2025. I work on projects throughout Sweden, the Netherlands and beyond.
How I found my way to the gardenIn 2019, I experienced a serious medical event. After five months of rehabilitation, I began rebuilding my life, but it wasn't easy. I struggled with memory loss, constant fatigue and sensory overload.
From that moment on, I walked through the dunes or the forest every day. Nature became a place where I felt safe, and I wanted to bring it closer to home.
We transform our small city garden by planting an apple tree, a magnolia, several fruit shrubs and 200 yellow and white flowering plants. While the garden takes root, so does another idea: I go back to school to study ecological garden design.
Before long, we shared our garden with insects, birds, frogs and hedgehogs. It became an extension of our home, and a place of simple joy.
Fast forward: 2025Still surrounded by moving boxes, I set up my design studio in Sweden. My first garden is realised in Utrecht just before we leave the Netherlands.
After 12 years in employment, helping others craft their stories into words, my pen is now dedicated to my own mission: bringing people and nature closer together.
I still delve into people’s stories, but now with a different purpose. What do you need to enjoy your garden? And how can we create value for the nature around us?
It all starts with a seed.
My vision
For me, the garden is a magical place. A daily invitation to slow down in a world that is constantly in motion.
The rhythm of the seasons reminds us of what is naturally needed to flourish. There is a time to grow and a time to let go, with the trust that the leaves will grow back on the trees.
I design gardens where you come home to nature. Where your mind switches off and your senses come alive.
Gardens that feel effortless, yet are carefully thought through. With generous planting and space to sit, explore, play and enjoy. A place for memories you cherish, shared with the people you love.
