Studio Jong Baw was founded with the mission to create gardens that bring people and nature closer together.
After completing my master's degree in journalism, I wrote about mental health and well-being for various organizations for more than 10 years.
In 2023, I went back to school to train as an ecological garden designer, driven by a desire to create something myself that would contribute to greater happiness and a sustainable world.
I design every garden based on a story. How do you relax in the garden after a busy day? What do insects, birds, and other animals in the area need? Where do children go on their adventures?
The result is a garden that surrounds you with nature and, at the same time, feels like an extension of your home. A place that comes alive, in every season of the year.

Design process
Introductory meeting
During an introductory meeting, we’ll get to know each other better and discuss your garden and your preferences. Based on this, I’ll prepare a customized quote.
Inventory
Once the quote has been approved, I’ll measure the garden and take stock of the existing plants and materials. I’ll also assess the soil, the garden’s location, and its surroundings.
Design
I develop the vision for the garden into a design drawing (scale floor plan) and a mood board with inspirational images. After the presentation, I incorporate any feedback into the final design.
Technical drawings
I’ll further develop the design into a dimension plan, any cross-sections, and a materials list. A 3D rendering and lighting plan are optional. With this package, we can request a quote from a landscaper.
Planting plan
In the planting plan, I determine which plants will go where. I tailor this to the soil and the garden’s location. I also take into account the flowering period, composition, and ecological value.
Construction
I work with sustainable landscapers and am happy to oversee the garden's construction. After a year, I'll stop by to see how the garden is coming along.
Services
Garden design
A garden design consists of a design sketch, technical drawings, and a planting plan. A 3D rendering and lighting plan are optional. The price depends on the garden’s area in square meters and starts at €1,850.
Planting plan
A separate planting plan for existing plant borders is also available. The price depends on the number of square meters of the borders and starts at €500.
Advice
A consultation provides an opportunity to address a specific question regarding layout, plant selection, or materials. The rate is €75 per hour. If a garden design follows, these costs will be credited toward the design fee.

The duration of a design process depends on the size of the garden and any feedback that needs to be incorporated. A complete design process for a private garden typically takes 10–16 weeks. During the initial consultation, we’ll discuss when you’d like to have the garden landscaped and the corresponding schedule.

Of course, that’s possible. After the garden presentation, you’ll have the opportunity to provide feedback on the design. Incorporating feedback is part of this phase of the design process and therefore does not incur any additional costs.

A garden can be planted year-round, except when there is a frost. The best times to plant are in the spring or fall. The soil is then neither too warm nor too dry. In the fall, plants can focus on strong root growth rather than leaf growth or flowering.

The cost of landscaping a garden depends on many factors, such as the garden’s location and the condition of the soil. Materials are a major expense, so as a general rule: the greener the garden, the lower the cost. During the initial consultation, we’ll discuss your budget and which choices will affect the cost. A garden design adds value to any garden, rooftop terrace, balcony, or patio. Especially in a small outdoor space, a design can have a relatively significant impact on the sense of spaciousness and the overall experience in the garden. Read more about this in the blog. -
Every garden benefits from a little care, but an ecological garden requires little maintenance. It’s a good idea to make sure the plants get enough water in the beginning when the weather is dry or warm, and to remove any weeds growing among the new plants. This gives the plants the best chance to become well-established. But after that, the garden is supposed to largely take care of itself.
